New interim Parks and Recreation Director appointed

At the recent Scottsboro City Council meeting, a public hearing was held regarding the application for an alcohol license for Dollar General, store 30977. The license was approved.
A motion to consider resolution to surplus city vehicles within the Vehicle Management Program was approved. The resolution allows the City of Scottsboro to surplus five trucks that were previously part of the Vehicle Management Program.

A resolution to award the bid for Alex Garcia Street, the new street that will be in front of Hobby Lobby, was approved. The low bid on the street was $382,840.22 with an added five percent contingency. Funding will come from the excess sales tax account.

A resolution to consider a budget amendment for travel and training for the fire department was approved. The resolution, in the amount of $11,465, will be paid from excess sales tax.
A resolution for the purchase of EMS supplies for the fire department was approved. The supplies will cost $2,062 and will be paid from excess sales tax.

A budget amendment in the amount of $6,000 for the purchase of uniforms for the fire department was approved, to be paid out of the excess sales tax account.

Richard “Pudge” Bailey announced that there was $48,000 set aside for King Caldwell Park in this year’s budget. In addition, Bailey stated that the ARP account had a remaining balance of $100,400.07. A motion was made and approved to use all of these funds to match the Three Arts Club funding for a new playground.

A budget amendment in the amount of $6,757 for the Parks and Recreation generator was approved, to be paid out of excess sales tax.

A budget amendment in the amount of $1,285 was approved for the tornado shelter generator repair. The amendment will be paid from excess sales tax.

Bailey announced that Interim Recreation Director Robert Fanning had requested to return to his previous job within the Parks and Recreation Department.

Following the previous job interviews, no candidate was selected to fill the vacant position. Applications for the director position were reopened and are being accepted until June 13.

Pam Bradford was appointed to be the Interim Parks and Recreation Director.
