Grand Jury meets

During the June 2025 Grand Jury, 417 cases were presented in open court and 405 true bills were returned.
The Grand Jury stated, “We have toured the Courthouse and found it to be in good condition. There were a few issues that we noticed. The second floor men’s bathroom needs a partition separating the urinals. There was also water leaking from a urinal. The stalls in the second floor ladies’ restroom would not latch. The chairs in the Grand Jury room were not comfortable for extended periods of time. That said, we are excited about the construction in the courthouse and look forward to seeing the updates in the future.

We feel strongly that the Jackson County Sheriff should be relieved of the guardianship duties that are currently included in the role of the Jackson County Sheriff. We believe that those duties should not belong to the Sheriff, but should be delegated elsewhere so that the Sheriff can devote his full attention to law enforcement and the running of the Sheriff’s Office.

We thank the District Attorney and his staff for guiding us through the cases we heard this week. We had a very educational and informative week hearing about the cases and the process that goes into our criminal system. We would also like to thank the investigators and officers who appeared before the Grand Jury, including the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Scottsboro Police Department, Bridgeport Police Department, Hollywood Police Department, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, and Jackson County Community Corrections.”
