Flag Day commemoration held

Flag Day, commemorating the adoption of the United States flag on June 14, 1777, was recognized during Drug Court, led by Judge Brent Benson last week. Flag Day represents freedom, unity, and the nation’s values. Observing Flag Day aligns with the goals of drug and veteran courts by promoting accountability and reinforcing themes of responsibility, recovery, and positive behavioral change.

Benson spoke during the Drug Court session and highlighted Flag Day’s importance. Benson provided a reminder of our flag’s history and symbolism, emphasizing our values, such as liberty, justice, and unity. Benson encouraged participants to see their progress as part of a broader commitment to community and personal growth.

VFW 6073 and Veteran Court Mentor Gayla Sue Mendez led the folding ceremony and Pledge of Allegiance. Drug Court participant Bailey Bradford assisted Mendez in the folding of the flag, while Drug Court participant Devin Duncan read the meaning of the 13 folds of the United States flag.
