Council approves budget amendments
Several items were approved during the recent Scottsboro City Council meeting.
Council members approved the surplus of property belonging to the Scottsboro Fire Department and the Scottsboro Street Department.
A resolution to guarantee a loan for the expansion of the Goose Pond Marina was approved.
A contract between the City of Scottsboro and Foster’s Aquatic Vegetation was approved.
A Memorandum of Understanding between the Jackson County Board of Education and the City of Scottsboro was approved. This Memorandum of Understanding stated that the Fire Science Instructor Position would be held by Scottsboro Fire Chief Jon Lee. The Jackson County Board of Education will soon begin offering Fire Science classes at the Kevin Dukes Career and Innovation Academy.
A budget amendment in the amount of $3,177.17 for the repair of an HVAC unit at the Scottsboro Public Library was approved. These funds will be paid from the excess sales tax account.
Two budget amendments were approved for the Scottsboro Parks and Recreation Department. A budget amendment in the amount of $9,567.90 for picnic tables at the Splash Pad was approved. A budget amendment in the amount of $37,500 for mini trucks was also approved. These funds will be paid from the Scottsboro Parks and Recreation concessions account.
A budget amendment of up to $8,000 for the remaining budget year, to provide mower leases for the Scottsboro Parks and Recreation was approved. These funds will be paid from the Scottsboro Parks and Recreation concessions account.
The surplus of two trucks, two side-by-sides and four lawn mowers was approved. These items are currently owned by Scottsboro Parks and Recreation. Monies received from the surplus of these items will be returned the Scottsboro Parks and Recreation concession account.
Two nominations were made to fill the Goose Pond Board vacancy. Mary Margaret Johnson was unanimously approved to serve on the board.
During reports, Council woman Nita Tolliver praised the improvements to the Scottsboro Parks and Recreation landscaping.
