VFW Post 6073 & Auxiliary launch scholarship program
Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 6073 and its Auxiliary proudly announce the launch of the 2025–2026 Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen Youth Scholarship Competitions. These nationally recognized programs are designed to inspire the next generation of leaders by encouraging thoughtful expression of Americanism, civic pride and patriotism. For decades, VFW Post 6073 has served as a dedicated champion of these values, empowering the youth of Scottsboro and Jackson County through education, community engagement and public service.
This year’s theme for both contests is: “How Are You Showing Patriotism and Support for Our Country?”
• Voice of Democracy (Grades 9–12): A high school audio-essay contest that invites students to record a 3–5 minute speech reflecting on the theme. Participants compete for college scholarships, including a $35,000 national award.
• Patriot’s Pen (Grades 6–8): A written essay contest for middle school students to express their ideas on patriotism in 300–400 words. National winners receive scholarships up to $5,000.
Students from Jackson County who participate have the opportunity to represent their community on a national stage—a tremendous source of local pride. Submissions are due by October 31, 2025, and students, educators and youth leaders can find entry forms and detailed guidelines at www.vfw.org/community/youth-and-education.
To complement the scholarship competitions, the VFW Post 6073 Auxiliary offers additional educational programs that celebrate patriotism in creative and inclusive ways:
•Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest (Grades 9–12): Celebrating artistic talent through patriotic-themed artwork with scholarship prizes.
•Illustrating America Art Contest (Grades K–8): Inspiring children to explore patriotic themes through visual art.
Educators, youth program coordinators, and parents are welcome to introduce these programs in classrooms and community organizations. They are more than competitions—they are opportunities to instill pride in country, community and citizenship. Submissions are due by March 31, 2026, and entry forms and detailed guidelines at www.vfwauxiliary.org/scholarships.
