Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6073 is now accepting nominations for its annual Teacher of the Year award, honoring exceptional K–12 educators — public, private and charter — in Jackson County and Scottsboro City Schools who exemplify patriotism, civic responsibility and excellence in the classroom.
The VFW Post 6073 Teacher of the Year award spotlights one outstanding educator whose service to students and community reflects the core values of the Veterans of Foreign Wars: service, leadership and devotion to country. Eligible nominees include teachers from elementary, middle and high schools — regardless of public or private status.

VFW Post 6073 is also seeking nominations for Scout of the Year award. This award honors one outstanding youth member, Boy Scout, Girl Scout, Explorer, Venturer or a member of any recognized scouting program, whose actions embody both the values of scouting and those of the Veterans of Foreign Wars including service, integrity and devotion to our country. The award celebrates a scout who demonstrates patriotism, leadership and a steadfast commitment to community service.

The deadline is October 31, 2025.

Some of the VFW’s earliest ties to the community involve youth groups and perhaps none are stronger or more lasting than the relationship between the VFW and America’s scouting organizations. The Scout of the Year program provides members of the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts to be recognized for their standout citizenship, patriotism, leadership, steadfast commitment to community service and love of country.

Before submitting your Scout of the Year application, please review the rules, eligibility requirements and applications found at vfw6073.org.
