Sachiko Castle, age 93 of Grant, passed away on August 25, 2025. A memorial service was held on Sunday, August 31, 2025 from the Grant Memorial Chapel. Interment followed in the Panquin Cemetery.
Mrs. Castle is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Mark) Sands, son, Carter (Kim) Castle; seven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and a dozen nieces and nephews that affectionately referred to her as “Aunt Sally.”
Mrs. Castle was preceded in death by her mother, Kiyo; mother-in-law, Flossie Castle; her husband of 38 years, Jesse O. Castle; and son, William “Sandy” Castle.
Sachiko was born in Tokyo, Japan, on July 22, 1932, and lived most of her life at her home in Grant. Sachiko was an avid seamstress, a passionate vegetable and flower gardener, enjoyed cooking both Southern and Japanese cuisine for her family, and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren during birthday parties and holiday gatherings. Her StoryCorp interview is permanently stored at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.
