Sophomore recognized after posting three goals, seven steals during three-game span for NACC
Aaron Herrera’s contributions to the Northeast Alabama Community College men’s soccer team during its three games last week caught the attention of the Alabama Community College Conference.
The ACCC announced Wednesday that Herrera has been named the conference’s Men’s Soccer Player of the Week.
The sophomore from Collinsville scored three goals during the Mustangs’ three-game stretch from Sept. 8-11. He scored a career-high two goals while adding four steals during NACC’s 6-3 win last Friday over East Mississippi Community College. Herrera also scored a goal and had two steals against Copiah-Lincoln Community College Sept. 8 while also totaling one steal against Southwest Mississippi Community College Sept. 9.
“We’re proud of Aaron for being named player of the week,” said NACC head coach Tom Shanklin. “Aaron worked extremely hard his freshmen year to continue to improve and has earned his way into being a staple in the central attacking midfield position. Extremely good ball handling puts him in great positions to not only score goals but also earn penalty kicks in the box. He’s a great student and athlete. [The award] is well deserved.”
