In the early morning hours of Saturday, July 26, the Scottsboro Police Department notified media that a Scottsboro Police Officer had been shot following a pursuit at the intersection of Highway 72 and County Park Road in Scottsboro.
Approximately five hours later, Scottsboro Police Department notified the public that the suspect was identified as Daniel Victor McCarn, age 29, formerly of Huntsville. SPD notified the public that the suspect was armed and dangerous. Scottsboro Police verified that the officer who was shot had sustained non life-threatening injuries but was being treated at Huntsville Hospital. Traffic was diverted for several hours in the County Park, Cecil Drive and Highway 72 area of Scottsboro.
Around noon on Saturday, ALEA issued a statewide Blue Alert asking the public to be on the lookout for McCarn. Around 6 p.m. the Scottsboro Police Department confirmed that the suspect had not been located, but the search was still ongoing.
Around 9:55 p.m. on Saturday, it was confirmed that McCarn had been taken into custody without incident. The following was released by the Scottsboro Police Department’s Coty Durham, “On 07/26/2025 at approximately 9:56 P.M., the Scottsboro Police Department received a call from a business owner in the 2000 block of Old Larkinsville Road. The business owner reported spotting a male subject on their security camera who matched the description of our suspect. Officers left the command post at Calvary Baptist Church and responded to the area. Upon arrival, Scottsboro Police Department deployed a drone to assist in the search. A heat signature was quickly detected in the vicinity, and once movement was observed, a contact team was deployed with support from assisting agencies.
As officers approached the location, the heat signature was confirmed to be a person. The individual was positively identified as Daniel Victor McCarn, 29 years old, formerly of Huntsville. McCarn was taken into custody without further incident and then booked into the Jackson County Jail on felony charges.
We would to take a second to let everyone know that the officer that was involved in the shooting is stable and has sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Our hearts go out to the officer and their family in this trying time, and we wish for the officer to have a speedy recovery!

McCarn is currently being held in the Jackson County Jail on the charge of Attempted Murder.
