Marcella Flowers Rogers Holt, age 89 of Scottsboro, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 12, 2026. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026 from the St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.
Mrs. Holt is survived by her children, Breckenridge B.A. (Reenay) Rogers, III, Goodrich A. “Dus” (Rebecca) Rogers nd Cynthia R. (Ron) Geurts; grandchildren, Breckenridge A. Rogers, Morgan R. (Will) Campbell, Anna R. (Dave) Cofer, Lillian Rogers, Phoebe Geurts and Saidee Geurts; three great grandchildren,; sister, Deborah Flowers (Edwin) Edgerton; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Holt was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, BBA “Breck” Rogers, Jr.; and second husband, James J. “Tim” Holt.
She was born March 8, 1937 in Boston, MA to Hamilton Goodrich Flowers and Loraine Greene Flowers.
She grew up in New Orleans, LA and graduated from McGehee School for girls.
She attended the University of Alabama but only got her Mrs. “degree” there when she met and married Breckenridge Barnes Aduston Rogers Jr. Marcella grew up in the city but loved small town life in Eutaw, AL where she lived, worked, and raised her family and then her new home in Scottsboro, AL from 2011 until passing.
At the young age of 40 she completed her nursing degree and 2 months later was widowed with 3 teenagers.
Fast forward ten years and while working as a nurse for Gulf States Paper Corporation she met and married Tim Holt.
She and Tim travelled the country extensively with their fifth wheel “The Jackpot”.
It is alleged but not proven, that they may have visited a casino or two during these travels.
In Scottsboro she served many years as a Highlands Hospital Ambassador and also volunteered at the Well’s Mana House.
