LIHEAP utility assistance available for Jackson County

Published:

The Community Action Agency of Northeast Alabama has officially announced that appointments are now open for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Cooling Utility Assistance.

This vital program is specifically designed to provide financial relief to low-income families, seniors and individuals residing in Jackson County who face high utility bills during the peak summer months.

As a dedicated local nonprofit organization, the Community Action Agency administers these federal funds locally to ensure that vulnerable neighbors can maintain safe, reliable and cool indoor environments as temperatures rise. Because summer energy bills frequently spike, this program presents an immense financial relief for households facing tight budgets.

Assistance is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, and scheduling an appointment is a mandatory step in the application process. Due to high demand and limited funding availability, residents in need of cooling utility assistance are strongly encouraged to secure their appointments as soon as possible.

Appointments can be scheduled by calling the automated hotline at (256) 999-1166 or online anytime by visiting www.caaneal.org. The local outreach office is located at the Jackson County Courthouse Annex at 205 Liberty Lane, Scottsboro, AL 35768. Applicants will generally be required to provide specific documentation during their appointment, including government-issued photo identification, social security cards, verifiable proof of household income, and their most recent home cooling utility bill.
