Doris Davis Edmonds Woods, age 89 of Grant, passed away on April 2, 2026. Funeral services were held on Monday, April 6, 2026 from the Grant Memorial Chapel. Rev. Beaul Hunkapiller officiated.
Mrs. Woods is survived by her children, Sherry (Ricky) Sutphin and Dr. Vince (Tracey) Edmonds; grandchildren, Tara (Johnny) Bachus, Ashlie Tidmore, Hunter Edmonds, Alix Kate (Cade) Riggs, Chris Sutphin, Quentin Stone, and Ashleigh (Owen) Fuss; great grandchildren, John (Lexi) Bachus, Caroline Bachus, Wyatt (Madison) Sutphin, Christian (Grace) Sutphin, Dru Brown, Grayson Fuss, and John Bradley Fuss; siblings, Ricky Davis and James Burroughs; and nieces and nephews, Jan Davis (Darrell) Moore, Heather Davis, Jean Zorzoli, Janie Hutson, and Billy Davis.
Mrs. Woods was preceded in death by her daughter, Shelia Edmonds Tidmore; siblings, Alberta Gregory and Larry “Jack” Davis; and nephews, Bobby Davis and Joan Helms.
Doris was born in Marshall County on February 17, 1937 to Truman and Laura Bell Davis. Doris was married to Harold D. Edmonds for over 25 years.
She was later married to Terry O. Wood for many years until her health started to decline. For the past 10 years, she has resided at Barfield Health Care.
She was employed at Teledyne Firth Sterling for many years until she retired. In her retirement, she worked part-time as a filing clerk at the Madison County Jail.
First and foremost, Doris enjoyed doing and buying for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
She was known many as a scholar of the Bible.
She led a women’s group at New Life and later as a resident at Barfield.
She enjoyed serving several outreach ministries at New Life Methodist Church in Grant. She established and maintained the church’s clothing closet.
