City schedules public hearing

The recent Scottsboro City Council meeting was led by council member Mike Ashburn.
A request to consider a tourism grant application for Classic Cruiserz was tabled to a later date. Currently Classic Cruiserz, the group replacing Jackson County Cruisers, is working on securing their 501(c)3 status.

A request to proceed with the rezoning of the Scottsboro Quarry property was heard. The request was approved, moving the rezoning request to a public hearing. The public hearing will be held on July 10 beginning at 5 p.m. Previously, city council members heard from the owner of the Scottsboro Quarry, Cody Lambert and landowner Justin Lackey regarding the request. According to Lambert, his company is requesting the adjacent 60 acres of property be rezones from AR to M2. The property owned by Lambert is currently zoned for AR. Lackey previously stated that he lives in the nearest residence to the quarry and would never consider selling property or living near any industry that would harm a community.

A budget amendment in the amount of $2,800 for grounds maintenance at the Goose Pond Civic Center was approved.

A resolution to award a financing bid for Heil side loaders was approved. Bids were solicited for financing. First Jackson Bank was the low bidder at a rate of 4.25%. This bid was recommended.
Tree Commission appointments were also made. There were three applicants and three openings. Zack Moore, Rachel Moore and Bob Hughes were all appointed to the open positions.
