Skyline High School basketball coach Terrance Craig McGill has been arrested in connection with an investigation involving a registered sex offender and activities at Skyline School.
McGill is charged with a violation of Alabama’s sex offender law. According to information regarding the charge, McGill is accused of knowingly allowing a registered sex offender to participate in school or athletic activities as a volunteer.
The arrest comes approximately three months after concerns surrounding registered sex offender Bryan Dale Farmer and his alleged involvement at Skyline became public.
In June, parents raised concerns that Farmer had been involved in activities at Skyline School, including allegations that he volunteered at sporting events, worked in the concession stand and participated in coaching or private instruction involving students.
The Jackson County Board of Education acknowledged the controversy at the time and said an investigation had already been underway for several months in conjunction with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
Jackson County Schools Superintendent Jason Davidson said in June that the investigation was focused on whether Farmer had been present on the Skyline campus as an authorized or approved volunteer, whether he had been in the presence of students contrary to Alabama law and restrictions placed upon him, and whether his presence around students had been “sanctioned or directed” by an employee of the school system. Davidson said Farmer had never been an employee of Jackson County Schools and had never been considered for employment.
According to Davidson’s June statement, Skyline’s principal had previously provided Farmer with written guidelines outlining the conditions under which he could be on Jackson County School System property or attend school events. After allegations surfaced that Farmer may have violated those restrictions, Davidson said Farmer was banned from all Jackson County School System property and school events. At the time, the school system emphasized that there had been no allegation that a student had been harmed.
Jackson County Sheriff Rocky Harnen also confirmed in June that investigators were looking into reports concerning Farmer’s activities at Skyline, including allegations that he may have worked in the concession stand or participated in what had been described as volunteer coaching.
McGill, a teacher and basketball coach at Skyline, was placed on administrative leave in June while the school system’s investigation continued.
Farmer’s status as a registered sex offender stems from criminal cases in Tennessee.
Farmer had also been arrested in Jackson County earlier in 2026 on an unrelated Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act violation involving an allegation that he failed to report a social media account, according to statements made by the sheriff during the June investigation.
The allegations involving Farmer’s presence at Skyline prompted significant concern among parents and discussion before the Jackson County Board of Education. The criminal charge now filed against McGill represents a new development in an investigation that has continued since those concerns became public.
Davidson responded to requests for information following today’s arrest with the following statement, “The district takes its responsibilities under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act seriously and does not disclose or discuss matters involving an individual student’s educational records. Likewise, to protect employee rights, the district does not comment on personnel-related matters.”
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a Court of law.
