NACC runners post PRs during UNA Invitational
The Northeast Alabama Community College men’s cross country team’s in-race charge led to its best team finish of the young season.
NACC’s top-five scoring runners all recorded faster times than their season-opening meet, helping the Mustangs post a runner-up finish in Saturday’s UNA Invitational at McFarland Park in Florence.
NACC closed with a team score of 69, five points better than third-place Northeast Mississippi Community College. UNA won the meet with a perfect score of 15.
“We hung back at the start and we were in fourth place. I yelled at every one of [the runners] and told them we’re going to be at least second [behind UNA],” said NACC head coach John Moore. “Sure enough, they pushed and caught up to those teams and got that [finish]. We had lot of guys have career days.”
Luke McCurdy was NACC’s top-finishing runner for the second straight meet. The freshman clocked a 5K race time of 17:04.52 to finish 24th.
Sophomore Henry Singleton finished 26th (17:18.64) for NACC, and rounding out the Mustangs’ top-five scoring runners were freshmen Garrett Scheer 27th (17:19.39), Jose Rodriguez 31st (17:39.46) and Bryant Yoder 32nd (17:40.94).
Also for NACC, freshman Manny Elizondo finished 33rd (17:53.75) and sophomore Maccoy Turner placed 37th (18:12.99) while sophomore Sam Adams was 38th (18:22.71), freshman Charly Ponce 41st (18:31.21), sophomore Omar Teletor 42nd (18:32.86), freshman Nate Huckbay 43rd (18:53.82) and freshman Trevor Mason 44th (18:58.79).
