Best Lure choices during current generation on Lake Guntersville

When current generation begins moving water on Lake Guntersville, bass often become more predictable. Bass do not want to fight the current any more than they have to, so they position themselves in areas where they can get out of the strongest flow while allowing the current to bring food directly to them.
Grass edges, ledges, points and channel openings can all become prime feeding locations when current is moving.
Once you locate these areas, the right lure can make all the difference.
Some of the best choices during current generation are deep-diving crankbaits, swimbaits, chatterbaits, flutter spoons and football jigs.
Deep-running crankbaits allow anglers to position the boat so they can parallel a grass line or ledge.
The goal is to put the lure directly in front of bass that are positioned along the edge waiting for food to come to them.
One important tip is to work **into the current**. Pulling the crankbait into the current allows the bait to move toward bass that are facing the flow and waiting to feed.
Swimbaits are one of the most versatile choices when current is moving because they can be fished at a variety of depths.
When bass are feeding on baitfish, a swimbait allows an angler to quickly determine what depth the fish are using.
Once that depth is identified, the angler can concentrate on keeping the bait in that strike zone.
Swimbaits are especially effective when bass are schooling.
When fish are actively chasing bait, a swimbait is one of the best lures for getting into position and staying with feeding fish.
Chatterbaits are another excellent choice when current is moving around offshore grass.
They can be dropped into holes in the grass, worked along the outside edge or pulled through the grass to create vibration and disturbance.
That vibration can imitate baitfish moving through the vegetation and trigger bass to compete for an easy meal.
Lake Guntersville’s offshore grass makes the chatterbait an especially effective feeding bait when the current gets moving.
Jigging or flutter spoons are ideal for current because their weight allows anglers to maintain contact with deeper water and cover an area efficiently.
Their vertical presentation and flash can attract bass from a distance.
When fish are positioned around deeper structure or bait, the spoon gives anglers a way to get the lure down quickly and keep it in the strike zone.
A football jig gives anglers the ability to slow down their presentation when bass are tight to the bottom.
Crawling a jig across the bottom allows you to keep the bait in front of a lethargic bass long enough to trigger a bite.
