Highlands Medical Center’s Foundation and Nourish One Child are teaming up to bring the third annual 2026 Scottsboro Dragon Boat Races to Goose Pond Resort Marina on Saturday, August 8th!
Highlands Foundation is hoping to raise enough funds to purchase new surgical beds for their surgical unit and Nourish One Child is always in need of funds to serve local children facing food insecurity. On average, NOC fills 485 bags of food per week with an approximate cost of $10 per bag, and this year we were able to add Fresh Markets for our Nourish One Child families. Each bag goes home with a student to supplement their diet during the weekend when they don’t have access to the free school meals at Scottsboro City Schools.
The event will feature the races that will take place all day and are incredible for the competitors and spectators alike. There will also be food and entertainment on the grounds!
Opening ceremonies take place at 8:30 a.m. on race day! See you there!

Ashley Bailey (Highlands Medical Center President | Highlands Foundation):
“After another incredible year, we are excited to bring our community together once again for an even bigger and better event! Each year, this event brings our community together through exciting competition, teamwork and a shared spirit of fun and fellowship. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, teams and supporters, we are able to continue investing in much-needed equipment and resources for our hospital. We are looking forward to another unforgettable year of fun, teamwork and giving back. Come join us – PADDLES UP!”
Mary K. Carlton (Nourish One Child):
“I am excited to partner with the Highlands Hospital Foundation again for the upcoming 2026 Dragon Boat Races. It is truly a family event, without which we would not be able to provide nourishment for the larger number of children we serve every week. 485. Our portion of the funds raised last year provided over a month’s supply of food.”
