Walter Howard (Sonny) Allen, age 83, of Scottsboro, passed away on April 27, 2026. Funeral services were held on Thursday, April 30, 2026 from the Scottsboro Funeral Home. Interment followed in the Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Allen is survived by his wife, Loretta Allen; daughter, Alesha (Steve) Martin; grandchildren, Sydney Martin and Caleb Martin; sister, Barbara (Dennis) Fisher; brother, Jim (Linda) Allen; special aunt, Daisy Looney; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his mother and father, Clara and Aubrey Allen.
Mr. Allen was one of the most generous men you could ever meet, always willing to give whatever he had to help someone else.
Each year he lovingly tended a large garden, freely sharing its abundance with family, friends, and neighbors. His kindness touched many lives and he was deeply loved by all who knew him.
Mr. Allen served 6 years in the National Guard. He worked at Word Lumber Company, Campbell Oil, and then drove an 18-Wheeler for over 30 years for Goodyear.
His final job before fully retiring was with Jackson County Hospital as a grounds keeper. He was a member of the Swearengin Church of Christ.
