Jackson County District Attorney’s Office announced today the back-to-back convictions of Mariah Hatchett for multiple felony assaults committed against local correctional officers.
Following two separate trials this week, Hatchett was found guilty of three counts of Assault in the Second Degree. On Tuesday, a jury convicted Hatchett for two counts related to an incident where she punched two Scottsboro City Correctional Officers. On Wednesday, she was convicted of an additional count of Assault in the Second Degree involving an attack on a Jackson County Correctional Officer.
The convictions stem from Hatchett’s violent actions while in custody, highlighting the ongoing risks faced by those tasked with maintaining order and safety within our municipal and county facilities.
Assistant District Attorney Taylor Garner praised the jury’s decision and emphasized the gravity of the offenses:
“These officers perform an essential role in our justice system that is often overlooked. Every day, they step into a high-pressure environment to ensure the safety of our community and the inmates in their care. They deserve our utmost respect, not the threat of physical violence. We are incredibly grateful to the jury for recognizing the dangers these officers face and for sending a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated in Jackson County.”
Hatchett now awaits sentencing, which Circuit Court Judge Brent Benson has set for 1:30 p.m. on April 15, 2026.
