Mrs. Earlene Gayle Sanders, age 95 of Grant, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2025. Funeral services were held on Sunday, September 14, 2025 from the Grant Memorial Chapel. Interment followed in the Free Home Cemetery.
Mrs. Sanders is survived by her three children, Charis Bonds, Jackie (Marilyn) Sanders and Shelia (Joe) Self; her four grandchildren, Kristy Robinson, Stacey ( Cory) Nunnally, Dusty Sanders, and Elizabeth (Gerard) Raley; her two great grandchildren, Will Robinson and John Raley; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mrs. Sanders was She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold M. Sanders; son, Dwight W. Sanders; grandson, Wesley Johnston; parents; and her five siblings, Charlotte McBride, Dr. H. Jean Gayle, Wallace Gayle, Ruth Gayle and June Troup.
One of the “Swearengin Girls”, Earlene was born on May 3, 1930 to George F. & Annie Wallace Gayle.
From an early age, Earlene was skilled softball player and continued to play for years and often spoke of her softball days. Church and community were also important facets of Earlene’s life. She was a longtime member of Grant First Baptist Church, serving in different roles and offering her assistance whenever it was needed. She also served the community in many ways. From 1976-1992, Earlene served as a member of the Grant Town Council. She spent many years serving on the board of Free Home Cemetery and working for the beautification of the town. She took that same energy and love for flowers and gardening to her own where she spent many hours working in her yard.
