2025 Dragon Boat Races coming in August

Published:

Highlands Medical Center’s Foundation and Nourish One Child are teaming up to bring the second annual 2025 Scottsboro Dragon Boat Races to Goose Pond Resort Marina on Saturday, August 9th from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
Highlands Foundation is hoping to raise enough funds to purchase new surgical beds for their surgical unit, and Nourish One Child (NOC) is always in need of funds to serve local children facing food insecurity.

On average, NOC fills 450 bags of food per week with an approximate cost of $10 per bag. Each bag goes home with a student to supplement their diet during the weekend when they don’t have access to the free school meals at Scottsboro City Schools and Jackson County Schools.

The event will feature the races that will take place all day and are incredible for the competitors and spectators alike. There will also be food and entertainment on the grounds.
Opening ceremonies take place at 8:30 a.m. on race day.

Dawn Pettengill with the Highland’s Foundation stated, “Last year was an unqualified success, and we are so excited to do it again! The community came together for a lot of fun competition, team building and camaraderie. Every single sponsor and team had a wonderful time, all while helping the hospital to purchase the much-needed imaging equipment we were hoping for. This year will be even better. Come on now and PADDLES UP!”

Mary K. Carlton with Nourish One Child said, “I am excited to partner with the Highlands Hospital Foundation again for the 2025 Dragon Boat Races to be held at Goose Pond Resort. Being named one of the top ten 2024 events in Scottsboro was a special honor. This fun event brings our community together. Our portion of the funds raised last year provided over a month’s supply of food for our 450 children that we provided food for over the weekends.”
